Place Saint Pierre
With the redevelopment, Saint Pierre has regained its status as a city-centre square and is once again open to the Garonne.
On the city centre side, on the upper section, the 45 parking spaces have been removed and car traffic reduced to one-way traffic at a limited speed. The reclaimed space is used by pedestrians and terraces installed under the newly planted trees. The square is unified from facade to facade by a uniform porphyry stone paving. New trees are also planted in groves, contrasting with the alignment of the large historic plane trees.
On the Garonne side, an amphitheatre has been designed with comfortable sandstone steps from the Pyrenees, providing a new direct access to the banks of the river. The amphitheatre is also designed as a meeting place, made even more festive at night by the new lighting, which highlights the stage and its backdrop: the river in the background.
