Place de la Daurade
The renovation of the Daurade Port brings back to life an emblematic place where the Toulouse way of life will regain its true meaning. In a more tree-lined setting, with an exceptional view of the Garonne River, both locals and tourists will be able to stroll and enjoy one of the most beautiful views of Toulouse.
The Daurade Port has been redesigned to highlight its strengths and its landscape and historical heritage. It features the development of a green space, a paving made of Pyrenean sandstone, a reinforced lawn, and a new playground for children with a theme of navigation on the Garonne. It is all designed to accommodate various activities such as a refreshment area, occasional markets, informal picnics, and more. The former morgue under the stairs has been replaced by a refreshment area (Pecheurs du Sable) with a spacious terrace next to the playground.
Existing trees have been preserved, and 24 new trees (ash, alder, willow, maple, etc.) have been planted on the lawn to provide shade. Under the existing large trees, a tailor-made playground evokes the ancient professions related to navigation on the Garonne, featuring a replica of a gabarre.
The heritage is highlighted through:
-. Showcasing the natural source of the Daurade: surface representation of the source's path, facing the Garonne River.
-. Evocation of the pier from the medieval Daurade Bridge: historically connecting the Hôtel Dieu and the right bank of the Garonne.
-. Restoration of the dike walls using traditional materials: old bricks and traditional lime mortars.
