Nesselande is located between Rotterdam and Gouda in a very dynamic economic zone. The land was used for intensive farming and was occupied by a serie of small rural villages. This area is currently occupied by new economic activities that make use of the infrastructure and existing water courses.

The development plan, which is in this lands of polders, includes the creation of an artificial lake with an area of ​​about three square kilometres. Sand extracted is used to increase the ground level and generate a basis for the new city. The lake, in turn, becomes an additional attraction for the city.

Lakeside macroblock "hybrid" arising from the horizon defines a large-scale reference point on the landscape. The presence of Rotterdam, visible across the lake on the horizon, partly explains the origin of these vertical buildings that mark the centre of Nesselande and bring another residential typology.

The plaza constructed at the lake, where civil, commercial and leisure facilities are located, allows the daily use of this centrality to the neighbourhood level.

Open space by the lake with walking paths is protected by high-rises buildings and canopies that ensure users’ comfort when the climate is not mild (extreme temperatures, strong winds).
