Grand Matabiau – Quais d’Oc
In Toulouse, Grand Matabiau quais d'Oc is a city development project designed to make everyday life easier for everyone by 2030 by improving the quality of the neighbourhood and promoting mobility.
It streches around Toulouse-Matabiau station, along the banks of the Canal du Midi and just a few minutes from the historic city center.
The project is based on two central main principles:
-. Mobility, by transforming Toulouse-Matabiau station into an exchange hub to facilitate daily travel, prepare for the arrival of the 3rd metro line and the High Speed Line, widen and secure areas for pedestrians and cyclists.
-. Urban development, by creating a city for all that offers a balance of housing, public and private facilities, shops, businesses and offices. The development of the banks of the Canal du Midi, the creation of an urban park and the revegetation of public spaces will give life to a greener, healthier district.
In practical terms, Grand Matabiau quais d'Oc is taking up two major challenges.
-. The first, summed up in the expression “the 15-minute city”, is to offer residents quick and easy access to local shops and facilities, in a quiet environment.
-. The second is to respond to the challenges of the sustainable city, by reducing its carbon footprint and mitigating the effects of climate change.
Grand Matabiau quais d'Oc is a partnership project involving the State, the Occitanie Region, the Haute-Garonne Departmental Council, the SNCF group, Tisséo, the City of Toulouse and Toulouse Métropole. These actors want to let the citizens express themselves and listen to their suggestions to develop and implement the into the project. The aim is to work together to develop and improve Grand Matabiau quais d'Oc, which has been awarded the ecoQuartier label, thus confirming its responsible and sustainable dimension.
