Barreiro
With a remarkable heritage and listed as a historical monument, the Municipal Market of Barreiro was built in 1916 in a neo-Arab and eclectic style. It has a simple, regular longitudinal plan, with a parallelepipedal volume articulated by horizontally arranged wall panels. The neo-Arab revival is particularly evident in the decoration and in the trefoil and horseshoe arches in the window openings and in the doors, the latter framed in brickwork and with smooth or tiled elevations up to the height bows.
The rehabilitation project of this monument restores the original architectural elements while at the same time modernizing the market to adapt it to today’s needs and make it once again a point of attraction for the neighbourhood and the city. An integrated public space, with a set of public facilities located together/combined in one place.
